The Bridal Hair Timeline for a 30A Wedding: Trial, Color and Extensions
From the day you set the date to the morning you walk down the aisle, here is how we plan bridal hair on the Emerald Coast.
If you are marrying on 30A or in Destin, your hair has a few jobs to do. It has to look like you, hold through Gulf humidity and a long evening by the water, and photograph beautifully from the first look to the last dance. The brides who feel calmest on the morning are the ones whose hair was planned backward from the date.
Here is the timeline we build with every bride, whether the ceremony is at Rosemary Beach, Seaside, WaterColor, Alys Beach, Grayton Beach, Sandestin or Miramar Beach.
As soon as you have a date: reserve it
Wedding dates book quickly in season, and bridal hair is planned around a single morning that cannot move. Reserve your date as early as you can. Once it is secured, we plan your trial and your day-of timeline together, so every step after this one has a place on the calendar.
The consultation: vision, dress and venue
Your first conversation is about the feeling you want, not just the style. We talk through your dress and neckline, your venue and the time of day, and whether you see your hair up, down or somewhere in between. Bring photos of the dress, any veil or hair accessories you are considering, and a few images you love. From there we plan your beauty timeline, including color and extensions if you want them.
Color: settle it before your trial
Your trial should show the color you will actually wear on the day. If you want brighter blonde or richer dimension for the wedding, plan that color work so it is in place before the trial, and leave room for a gloss closer to the date so the tone is fresh for photos. Our balayage and color page explains how we approach dimension.
This is not the season for a dramatic first-time change. If you are considering one, start early enough to live with it for a while before the wedding.
Extensions: install a few weeks before
Extensions are optional, but many brides want the extra fullness and length for an updo or soft waves that last all night. The rhythm we recommend is simple: install a few weeks before the wedding, then refresh in the days before. Tell us at your consultation if you are considering them, so we can time the install and your trial together. Our 30A wedding extensions page covers methods for the bride and the bridal party.
If your honeymoon involves salt water and sun, our guide to making extensions last has the swim routine worth packing.
The trial, in the atelier
Trials are held at the atelier in Destin, ahead of your date. This is where we perfect your hair and makeup so there are no surprises on the morning. A few things make a trial more useful:
- Wear a top with a neckline close to your dress.
- Bring your veil, comb or hair accessories, even if you are still deciding.
- Take photos in daylight and with a flash, since that is how your photographer will see you.
- Notice how the style feels after a few hours, not just in the first five minutes.
Everything we do for a bride is built for the coast: long-wearing styles meant for humidity and for the golden Emerald Coast light.
The bridal party
We coordinate hair and makeup for mothers, bridesmaids and loved ones, so everyone looks effortlessly cohesive in photos. Bring your headcount to the consultation so we can plan the morning around your timeline. Bridal party details are quoted by party size at that consultation.
The week of the wedding
If you have extensions, this is when they are refreshed. Otherwise the best thing you can do for your hair this week is nothing new. Skip untested products and treatments, and we will tell you exactly how to arrive on the morning.
A simple checklist
- Date set: reserve your bridal hair date.
- Consultation: share your dress, venue and vision, and plan color and extensions.
- Before the trial: finish any color work.
- A few weeks out: extensions installed, if you are wearing them.
- Trial: hair and makeup perfected in the atelier.
- Days before: extensions refreshed, and a gloss if planned.
- The morning: a calm, on-schedule getting-ready for you and your party.

Frequently Asked
When should I book my bridal hair trial?
Reserve your wedding date first. Once it is secured, we plan your trial and day-of timeline together, and trials are held at the atelier in Destin ahead of your date.
When should I get hair extensions for my wedding?
Plan to install them a few weeks before the wedding and refresh them in the days before. Mention extensions at your consultation so the install and your trial can be timed together.
Should I color my hair before my bridal hair trial?

Do you do hair and makeup for the bridal party?
Yes. We coordinate hair and makeup for mothers, bridesmaids and loved ones so the whole party looks cohesive. Bridal party details are quoted by party size at your consultation.
