What to Expect at Your First Consultation
A warm, honest walkthrough of the first visit at Studio Beige — from how we read your hair to how we decide, together, what's right for you.
If you've never had hair extensions before, the first visit can feel like a small mystery. You're handing someone your hair, your time, and a fair bit of hope. So before you ever sit in our chair, it helps to know exactly how the consultation goes — what we look at, what we ask, and how we arrive at a plan that actually fits your life.
Studio Beige works by appointment, by application. That isn't gatekeeping for its own sake. It's how we protect the quality of the work and the calm of the room. When you reach out, you're not joining a walk-in waitlist — you're starting a conversation with people who want to get your hair right the first time.
Why we start with a consultation, not an install
Extensions are a relationship, not a one-time purchase. The wrong method on the wrong hair shows up fast: tension at the scalp, bonds that slip, color that reads off in daylight. A proper hair extension consultation in Destin exists to make sure none of that happens to you. We'd rather spend an unhurried session understanding your hair than rush you into an install that looks beautiful for a week and frustrating for a season.
This is also where honesty lives. Sometimes the most useful thing we can tell a guest is "not yet," or "let's correct your color first," or "a different method will serve you better." You'll always leave with a clear answer, even when that answer takes a little patience.
What Tania actually assesses
A good consultation is mostly listening and looking closely. Here's what we're reading while we talk.
- Your hair history. Past color, lightening, keratin treatments, previous extensions, any breakage or damage. What your hair has been through tells us what it can comfortably hold now.
- Density and texture. How much natural hair you have, how fine or coarse each strand is, where it's thinner, and how it falls. Density is what determines whether a method will sit invisibly or peek through.
- Your lifestyle. How you wear your hair day to day, whether you're in the Gulf and the pool all summer, how much morning time you realistically have, how often you can come back for maintenance. The most elegant install in the world fails if it doesn't suit how you actually live.
- Your goals. Length, fullness, a little of both, or simply hair that finally behaves. We want the picture in your head — bring photos, even imperfect ones.
- Color match. Extensions have to melt into your own tone in real light, not just under salon bulbs. We assess whether your current color is ready, or whether a balayage or blonding session should come first so everything reads seamless.
From there, we talk method. Studio Beige is a Balmain Paris Hair Couture Signature Salon — the only one on the Emerald Coast — Great Lengths Platinum in cold-fusion, and Kacey Welch Method certified, which means we're not married to one technique. Great Lengths cold-fusion, keratin K-tip bonds, thermal fusion, tape-in, hand-tied wefts, Invisible Bead Extensions — the method is chosen for your hair, never the other way around.
The atelier, and how it feels
Studio Beige doesn't feel like a busy salon, because it isn't one. The space is quiet and intentional — soft light, sea-glass mirrors, a living cactus wall, room to actually think. You won't be talked over or rushed to the next chair. The consultation is yours, and the pace is yours.
If you've come to us for something more sensitive — thinning, loss, or a change you'd rather discuss privately — that conversation happens with discretion and care. For those guests we also offer non-surgical hair replacement, toppers and pieces, in a setting designed for comfort rather than exposure.
An honest word on candidacy
Not everyone is ready for extensions on day one, and we'll tell you so plainly. If your hair needs to recover, if your color needs correcting, or if your goals would put more tension on your strands than they should carry, we'll say it — and we'll give you the path to get there. Candor is part of the luxury. You're paying for judgment as much as for hands.
Your next steps
After we've read your hair and talked through your options, you'll leave with a clear plan: the recommended method, the approximate timeline, the maintenance rhythm, and what your first install would involve. No pressure to decide in the room. Good decisions about your hair deserve a quiet minute.
You'll also meet the people who'll be caring for you. Alongside Tania, our team includes Jennifer Perlewitz, a master stylist with more than eighteen years behind the chair, who specializes in extensions and blonding, plus Zoe, Faith, and Yana. You can read more about everyone on our team page before you come in, so the first visit already feels familiar.
When you're ready, the best first step is simply to introduce yourself. Tell us a little about your hair and what you're hoping for, and we'll take it from there — thoughtfully, and at your pace. Apply to become a Studio Beige guest and request your consultation here. We'd love to meet you.

Frequently Asked
Do I need a consultation before getting hair extensions at Studio Beige?
Yes. Studio Beige works by appointment and by application, and every new guest begins with a consultation before any install. It's how we assess your hair history, density, color, and goals, and recommend the right method for your hair rather than rushing you into a one-size-fits-all install.
What happens at a first hair extension consultation in Destin?
We sit down unhurried and read your hair closely: your color and lightening history, your natural density and texture, your lifestyle and maintenance time, and the length or fullness you're after. We check whether your current color is ready to match seamlessly, talk through the method best suited to you, and send you home with a clear plan and no pressure to decide on the spot.
How do I know if I'm a candidate for extensions?
That's exactly what the consultation determines. Sometimes hair needs to recover or color needs correcting first, and we'll tell you honestly if that's the case rather than proceeding when the timing isn't right. You'll always leave with a clear answer and a path forward, even when the most useful answer is 'not yet.'
What makes Studio Beige different from a regular salon for extensions?
Studio Beige is a quiet, by-appointment atelier rather than a busy walk-in salon. Founder Tania Crawford is Balmain-trained, Great Lengths Platinum in cold-fusion, and Kacey Welch Method certified, so the method is chosen to suit your hair across many systems. The consultation is unrushed, private, and honest, with care taken for sensitive concerns like thinning or hair loss.
